They took him again. Everytime she thought they had a break it quickly came to an end. And this time she didn't have a baby to live for. She was tremedousely tired from all the pain. The only thing that kept her going was the overwhelming certainty that he was alive and beeing tortured. Actually she knew that for sure.. if she closed her eyes she saw him lying on the cot, his head attatched to a computer equipment, a man in a white coat sitting close by, he pressed the button and Mulder cried out in pain, the picture of his brain turning red shown on the computer screen. She could actually feel this pain herself, after all that could be called bearable but her hurting for him redoubled the sensation - she would come awake crying out and gasping for breath. From these 'dreams' she, however, managed to get some vital information - this experiment took place here, on this damn planet. This time she wouldn't wait for his miraclous returning, she would find him for real. Whatever the cost, she was more than willing to pay it. The problem was that her body was completely exausted and so was her mind. In two months after Mulder's escape from the prison Skinner was able to organize their return home and to the bureau, once again the members of the secret goverment changed along with the policy regarding the x-files. Doggett, Reyes and Mulder returned to the basement, Scully continued to work in Quantico. Kersh disappeared, the new director seemed to be quite tolerable. AD Skinner refused the promotion and remained their boss. Things seemed to calm down.. Untill Doggett got a report. The abductees who were cured by Jeremiah Smith once again disappeared. Teresa Newman was the last one and from the evidence gathered at the site was quite clear that she was taken against her will. And he couldn't reach Mulder..Scully was at Skinner's office when Doggett rushed in. He didn't expect to meet her there. Now there was no way he could escape telling her the news. Skinner felt his urgency. "Agent Doggett?" "I'm..I was looking for Agent Mulder. Do you know where he is? His cell phone is off". "He is at the meeting, somewhere in the building. What the hell happened?" Doggett met Scully's gaze. "Someone is taking abductees, in the same order they did two years ago. Teresa Neman has been taken from her house in Vermont. I do not want to worry you, I just want to make sure that Mulder is safe". By the time Scully got to her coat she was shaking so badly that just couldn't fish the phone out. Her surroundings began to swim and she took hold of the chair to steady herself. She wouldn't help Mulder acting like this and she had to find him really quick. Both men ran to her afraid she would go down. At that moment Mulder entered the office. "Sir, your secretary wasn't there, so..". He took in the scene in front of him. Half-supported by Skinner, Scully walked toward him. Relief made her week and as her knees buckled Mulder caught her into his arms. "Scully? Scully?!?". "I'm okay. I just need to sit down". Mulder gently lay her on the little couch his hand on her shoulder forstalling her from getting up. He looked up at the concerned faces of Doggett and Skinner. "What is it?". She closed her eyes, God, she's been so scared. "Sweartheart, what's wrong? I think we better call a doctor." Scully quickly opened her eyes. "No. That's not necessary, I'm really fine". She could tell that the men weren't at all reasured. "Mulder, you can let me up. I'm sorry, I scared you.. when John told me.. I just remembered..". Doggett gave Mulder the report which he read rapidly. Now Scully's reaction made sence. "We'll protect you, Mulder" Skinner cut in. "I'll organize a safe house and with magnete these super soldiers won't bother you". He could see that Scully was already breathing easily. Even without her reaction he could tell that if smth happend, this time she simply won't survive it. The thought made him shrudder, last time he failed to protect his agent. She had to decide what to do but she couldn't think rationally. She heard him cry out inside that room. If she came inside she knew she would be dead, that was for sure. She didn't hesitate, moreover, she never was so sure in her entire life. She had to stop these monsters. The image of Mulder's tortured face made her sway through her own pain. She couldn't bear it anymore. A second latter firing her gun she slammed the door open. Creating kind of shield while firing she got to the other door and shut it behind herself. It registered in her brain that there were at least two gunmen, Kersh and a doctor, but the sound of fire probably brought them some back up. After closing the door she ran to Mulder who seemed to be semi-consiuos and freed him from the restraints and eqipment. Then she was at the door, shooting right through it. the enemies were doing the same. Part of the door broke and smashed to pieces. There was a large hole in it. She wounded at least two of them but now she stood in the line of their fire. She felt as the bullet went through her and slowly slid to the ground feeling that that was probably the end but at least she'd done all she could. She more felt than saw as Mulder lept from the bed and knelt beside her trying to find out how bad she was injured. For the first time in weeks she felt some peace though she could still hear the shooting in the background.
